2025 Nagasaki Kunchi Festival Nishifurukawa Town Yagura Taiko Honodori @Suwa Shrine Right Box Seat A-8
It brings back that excitement and excitement!
It was truly wonderful to be able to enjoy the
Nishifurukawacho dedication dance together in the wonderful right-hand
box seats.
Conclusion: "It's clear that Japanese people really love sumo! The audience was thrilled by the amazing "archery techniques" and "shikomi" (sumo squats)!"
I'd like to share with you what I saw and felt about the Nishifurukawa Town dedication dance!
2025 Nishifurukawa Town Dedication Dance "Umbrella pole, Yagura drum, Honodori"
First, the umbrella poles of Nishifurukawa Town came in from
the approach to Suwa Shrine accompanied by spirited shouts. As
befitting a town with deep ties to sumo, the gorgeous decorations were
intricately decorated with powerful designs, giving a real sense of the
town's pride!
1. Yagura Taiko: Bring back the excitement of the sumo ring!
First of all, the children participating in the event gave excellent reports, which drew applause from the audience!
You can see that you've practiced a lot!!
The highlight afterwards was the yagura taiko drumming, which was also associated with sumo!
Particularly impressive was the bow-taking ceremony at the end of the performance.
This time, the mawashi worn by former sumo wrestler
Kyokudozan was used! The sight of the archer wearing this gorgeous
mawashi and twirling his bow with a dignified pose was truly sacred and
heroic.
In addition, Egor had high school students act as archers,
and their teachers joined in, doing the "archer" and "sumo squats"! When
they stomped their feet, the whole venue shouted "Yoisho!", creating a
sense of unity!
It was a performance that really brought home to us the
history of Nishifurukawa Town, which controlled sumo wrestling in
Nagasaki during the Edo period. The sumo wrestlers' movements and sumo
chants, accompanied by the powerful sounds of the drums, were very
moving!
Japanese people really love sumo (laughs).
2. Honodori: A dazzling children's dance
In contrast to the power of the yagura drums, the main dance was enveloped in an elegant atmosphere.
The kids were adorable!
The program featured the Nagauta piece "Suwa Mai
Kiyokinagare no Sarashime." The young dancers, dressed in gorgeous
costumes, performed the dignified traditional Japanese dance.
I was captivated by the beauty of the spinning cloth, the
serious expressions on the children's faces and their graceful
movements.
The box seats were the best place to experience the votive dance up close!
It was a wonderful performance that combined the history and
traditions of Nishifurukawa Town with the enthusiasm of the
performers.
